2.3.2.2.3.2 Evaluation

Evaluation means determining the value, usefulness or strength compared to the ideal considered something.
In engineering, one of the commonly used method is the method VDI 2225.
Broadly speaking, the steps taken are as follows:
1. Determining the evaluation criteria (Identification of evaluation criteria) that is based on the specifications made.
2. Weighting criteria (Weighing of evaluation criteria)
This step represents the selected criteria that have a level of influence that is at the level of concept variants. We recommend that the evaluation focused on the main characteristics desired in the final solution.
3. Determine the parameters of evaluation criteria (GNOME parameters)
So that the ratio of each variant can be seen clearly concept, then select a parameter or scale used by a variant of the concept.

4. Inserting the parameter values, the price should be entered as nominal price, but when it is not possible, then the VDI 2225 provides a qualitative price correlation and price such as example shown in table 2.2 (Ref; G.Pahl-W.Bits, p. 350)
5. Determining the overall value of the variant concept (determining Weighing Overall Value / OWV)
The total value for the variant concept can be calculated using the formula:
OWV = - W1 VV
Where:
W1 = weight of evaluation criteria to j
Vv = value to the evaluation criteria j
6. Estimating the uncertainty evaluation (Evaluation uncertainities)
Error evaluation can caused by several things, including:
- Error subjective, such as lack of information.
- Error calculation parameters.
7. If there is an adjacent OWV value of 2 (two) variant of the concept, it will be evaluated weak point (Weak spots)
Using the above evaluation method, it is expected to be obtained quite satisfactory solution.
